Elderberry Syrup

Many people take this every day to ward colds, or lessen their duration

Equipment

  • 1 fine mesh strainer
  • 1 dry goods measuring cup
  • 1 saucer or small cup To press on elderberries to extract juice
  • 1 tablespoon
  • 1 small pot or saucepan

Materials

  • 1 cup Dried Elderberries See note about sourcing
  • 1 cup Water
  • ½ cup Honey
  • ¼ teaspoon Dried Cinnamon

Instructions

  • Combine Ingredients in a small pot.
  • On medium heat, bring to just boiling.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 20 - 25 minutes until sauce has thickened and berries have burst.
  • Remove from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer.
  • Press the berries with a saucer or small cup to release as much fluid as possible.
  • Throw away the leftover berries mixture, retaining the syrup.
  • Store the syrup in a closed jar in the refrigerator.
  • Take one tablespoon 1 tablespoon a day in water, or tea, as a preventative.
  • At the onset of cold symptoms you may take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day.
